Now in its fourth year, the Legends & Legacies Invitational remains a central feature of the rally’s Legends Gallery—a curated showcase honoring builders who shaped the roots of the custom motorcycle scene while spotlighting the rising stars pushing it forward. This year, nine legendary builders from SmokeOut’s earliest years have each selected a “legacy” builder to join them in a paired exhibition of craftsmanship, innovation, and tradition.
The result is a rare, generational collaboration—two custom motorcycles per pair, built to tell the story of mentorship, respect, and the enduring relevance of garage-built creativity.
“This invitational is more than a bike display—it’s about honoring the people who carried the torch when nobody else would, and introducing the ones who are lighting the path ahead,” said Chris Callen, SmokeOut Rally producer and custom builder himself. “It’s a living time capsule of what chopper culture has always been—DIY, bold, personal, and passed on by hand.”
Each invited builder pair will be in attendance throughout the weekend, offering attendees an opportunity to connect directly with the minds and hands behind the machines. From garage-built choppers and diggers to modern custom interpretations, the bikes on display represent decades of sweat, skill, and subculture style.
In addition to the Legends & Legacies Invitational, the Legends Gallery will also feature the return of the Tankful Art Benefit Exhibit—a collection of custom-painted gas tanks from top artists around the country, auctioned to support Meals on Wheels Rowan. The space also serves as the SmokeOut Hall of Fame, paying tribute to cultural icons such as Indian Larry, Roadside Marty, and other pivotal figures who shaped the rally’s legacy.
