Just because someone has earned the title of “senior citizen” doesn’t mean life gets easier. In fact, for many, the golden years are marked by a heartbreaking struggle no one should have to face: hunger.

In 2019 alone, 5.6 million seniors in America experienced food insecurity. That’s millions of parents and grandparents forced to make impossible choices—63% of them choosing between paying for food or filling life-sustaining prescriptions.

Imagine your grandmother—the one who always had cookies waiting for you—sitting quietly, wondering if she’ll have dinner tonight. Picture the dad who taught you how to cast a line for Sunday supper now grateful for a single can of tuna. Think of your mom, who never missed a meal on your plate, skipping meals of her own because there’s just not enough to go around.

These are the people who shaped us, who gave when they had little, and loved us fiercely. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

That’s why the SmokeOut Rally proudly supports TankFul—a powerful art auction initiative that benefits Meals on Wheels. This effort was originally sparked by Ed Kerr, founding member of Hamsters USA, whose heart for seniors and vision for change inspired something extraordinary. Now, the project is being passionately spearheaded by Heather Callen, whose leadership and dedication are turning compassion into action.

Thanks to the unwavering generosity of our community, SmokeOut has donated $49,000 over the last three years to help feed America’s seniors. This year, we’re pushing further.
